The making of electricity is possible from a number of primary energy sources including gas, geothermal heat, fossil fuels and biomass.
Examples include;
1. Gas. Power Stations such as at Otahuhu, Stratford, Whirinaki and Huntly use natural gas to create electricity. Another example is a Landfill Generation Plant where the collection of methane at an old rubbish dump site is used to fuel gas turbine generator sets.
2. Binary Power generation uses geothermal heat to turn isopenthane into steam. The steam drives a turbine and electricity is produced.
