The installation and charging of Electric Vehicles in New Zealand is currently being regulated by The Electricity (Safety) Regulations in conjunction with two sets of Guidelines published by WorkSafe NZ.
The Inspector's role is to ensure the safe connection of the charging equipment to an appropriately sized power supply and to carry out periodic assessments on that equipment.
A NZ Standard is currently being considered and there is consideration being given by Energy Safety to whether the equipment will be classified as High-Risk in terms of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations.
We continue to inspect all Electric Vehicle charging facilites and can provide you with the latest advice to help you safely charge your electric vehicle.
