When do I need a WoEF
There are several scenarios with the most common applying to Motorhomes and Caravans, Answer, every 4-years. And also, before each hire period.

Who can issue a WoEF
Electrical Inspectors and an Electrician immediately following construction as a one-off.

Where can I find information
AS/NZS 3001 is the primary reference Standard. There are also testing requirements contained in Section 8 of AS/NZS 3000.

Imported Recreational vehicles
Do you have an imported Recreational Vehicles operating at 110 volts? If so, WorkSafe NZ has published guidelines explaining the requirements to upgrade.

How can we help?
In almost all cases, we'll be able to issue a Warrant, following our same day tests and checks. If a fault is found it will need to be attended to.
Things to check before contacting an Inspector. . .
  • Is your motorhome or caravan RCD protected? If not, ask your electrician to install or provide you with one.
  • Where is the electrical supply cord? Is it OK? no knicks, damaged insulation or exposed conductors at either end?
  • Is the supply cord permanently attached to the caravan or is it a plug and socket arrangement?
  • If it's a plug and socket arrangement, check to see if the cord anchor near the appliance socket inlet is intact and secure?
  • Do you know where the switchboard is located inside your unit?
  • Do you know where the earth wire is that is attached to the chassis or frame? Is it labelled?
  • Do you have a copy of your previous Warrant readily available?

Commonly asked questions
If the sticker is lost or becomes illegible, what can I do? Answer, check with your Inspector to see if they're OK to issue a replacement. They will want to assure themselves that the unit is still electrically safe. Expect to pay a nominal fee.

What if I can't find the chassis earth? Answer. All metal work likely to become alive needs to be earthed including the metal chassis. Testing can verify whether it is earthed however there is also a requirement for the Inspector to sight the connection to see if the wire is protected, labelled, is the right type, and not damaged in any way.

Can an Inspector fix it?
Sorry, there's a Conflict of interest. An Inspector can't inspect his own work or any work he has directed to be done.
