How much does an inspection cost?
Our charges are time-based and includes the time number of site visits needed and time needed to audit any applicable documentation. Time should also be allowed for the collection, assembly and corelation of any missing information. Call us for a quote or estimate.
What sort of checks are involved?
Electrical tests are outlined in the relevant Acts, Regulations and Standards.
Overall compliance must meet the requirements of The Electricity Act, The Electrical (Safety) Regulations and AS/NZS3000 (e.g. Section 8).
Here are some of the other primary reference Standards:
Explosive Gas hazardous Areas AS/NZS 60079 series
Combustible Dust, Flyings & Fibres AS/NZS 61241 series
Spray Painting Booths, Paint Mixing Rooms AS/NZS 4114 series
Caravans. Motorhomes, Relocatbale Buildings AS/NZS 3001
Photovoltaic (Solar) Power AS/NZS 5033
What can I do before I get an electrical inspection done?
If you have any concern about the condition of your electrical equipment have your electrician perform an electrical safety check and issue you with an Electrical Safety Certificate.
Your electrician can also help you to identify the particular type of installation you have and whether or not a specialist inspector is required.

How long is a Warrant of Electrical Fitness valid for?
Four years.
Things you should consider before contacting us for a warrant for your caravan.
Do you suspect there something may be wrong with it? If so, you might want to get your electrician to check it first.
Is it RCD protected? If so where is it and when was it last tested - using the on-board reset/test/off button is acceptable.
Where is the lead? Is it permanently attached to the vehicle or is there a plug/socket extension cord? What condition is it in?
Where is the switchboard located? Do you know where the earth connection to the chassis is (clue: often directly below the switchboard).
Gas and/or Dust Hazardous Areas
Does equipment in a hazardous area have to be regularly checked?
Yes and AS/NZS60079.17 describes the two main methods of doing this. Firstly and most common is by Periodic Verfification where items are audited at least once every fours. Some items may need to be checked more regularly either because of manufacturer requirements or because of technical or operational use. Typically this involves the engagment of a part-time competant person whose primary roles are to inspect, audit and report.
Secondly there are Continuous Supervision provisions which may apply where equipment that is regulalrly used, visited or maintained by personnel who are competant, may "pass" the item as being suitable for purpose once they've finshed working on the equipment. These provisons apply where oversight is provided by a Technical Person with Executive Function (TPEF).
The pros and cons of each method are varied and we can provide you with a presentation to help you choose which method means your needs best.
What is a Verification Dossier?
A Verification Dossier is a set of documents showing the compliance of electrical equipment and installations (extract from AS/NZS60079.14).
It can be as simple as a folder containing the manufacturer’s operation and maintenance manuals, drawings, location test certificate (if required), electrical compliance certificates (past and present), maintenance records, and an owner’s statement.
Alternatively, records can be held on computer.
What is a Location Test Certificate?
An annually renewable Location Test Certificate is required where explosive, flammable or oxidizing substances are stored and the quantity exceeds the thresholds specified in the legislation. Follow this link for more details Location Test Certificates
What is an Owner’s Statement?
It is much like a memo, often prepared on the owner’s letterhead stating who the owner is and if the operator is a different entity, the Statement records who they are. It also records the location of the premises, the intended use of the equipment and where the Dossier is being held. The Statement stays in the Dossier.
What drawings are needed?
Construction drawings, electrical schematics, location, equipment layout, and circuit diagrams to name a few. Where drawings need to be created we can develop drawings as a result of our inspections or from your sketches as required.

Photovoltaic (Solar) Systems
Is there a requirment for regular checks?
Yes as detailed in AS/NZS 5033.
